Typical
Customers & Partners
TecExec was initially
focused on helping small companies and startups and this remains the core
of the business. However, over the years it has also worked with
some of the world's largest multinationals on specific consulting projects
calling for both management and engineering expertise. Consequently,
it is very difficult to define a "typical" customer other than
through the common links of technology and innovation. For
confidentiality reasons we cannot name most of our customers but they
include:
-
University academics
-
Inventors
-
Sole traders,
entrepreneurs and startups
-
Small technology
businesses
-
Medium-sized
engineering firms
-
Multinationals
(process products, IT, electronics)
-
etc...
About TecExec
TecExec was established
in 1992 by an enthusiastic group of engineers who realised that for many
technical companies, the gap between technical and management disciplines
was widening. They saw that there were many areas where individuals
who had both strong technical and managerial expertise could help
businesses which were struggling to bridge this gap.
One of the first areas of focus for this approach was the field of
European legislation relating to Machinery Safety which became a critical
issue for many machinery manufacturers in the mid-1990s. The
concepts of self-certification and the legal implications of engineering
design decisions were seen as a major barrier to implementing the
regulations. TecExec provided software, training, workshops
and books on the subject to provide practical support to engineers who
were dealing with these issues.
The consulting side of the business grew during the mid-1990s to encompass
engineering-related management consulting topics such as Business Process
Re-Engineering, business planning and product/service development.
These were all approached from TecExec's engineering-based view and
provided novel developments for several large business clients.
Towards the late 1990s, TecExec began to develop its ideas on Venture
Partnering as a way of harnessing the potential of new technology and
innovation for real commercial benefit. It started two new ventures;
Watson Brown HSM Ltd. is a joint-venture with an inventor supplying
machinery for waste rubber recycling and
Maelstrom-APT Ltd. is a supplier of high technology process equipment.
Both of these companies have attracted external investment and are developing
well. Since 2000, TecExec has acquired an interest in three further
companies by way of joint venture or minority shareholding and is actively
engaged in developing these businesses (see the Investments
and Holdings page).
